Toyota GR KART

Toyota Gazoo Racing has launched the GR KART, designed to make grassroots motorsport more accessible.

The kart is designed for children and adults and addresses some of the practical issues associated with kart ownership.  In Japan, retail price is 385,000 yen, or about $3500 AUD.  The GR KART is available for purchase at select kart tracks in Japan and at certain GR Garage locations, with additional sales locations planned.

Significant features

– The kart is 1820mm long, 1160mm wide, weighs 83kg.  Its compact design means it can fit inside a family minivan, eliminating the need for a trailer.

– Can be stored vertically without draining fuel or engine oil.  This is thanks to an oil catch tank, diaphragm carburettor and fuel-filler arrangement designed to minimise leakage.

– Powered by a 215cc four-stroke engine.

– Sliding pedals and a tilting steering wheel means that drivers between 135cm and 185cm tall can use the same kart.

– Instead of a conventional chain drive, the GR KART uses a belt with an automatic tensioner, while its engine incorporates a self-charging battery.

– The engine’s diaphragm carburettor is designed to remain consistent during cornering and incorporates a primer pump to simplify starting.

– Rear bumper designed to prevent other karts riding over a rear tyre.

– Stainless-steel components and protected fuel lines.
