For the first time since 2022, Targa Tasmania makes a most welcome return in 2025, with Targa Australia planning to run its signature event at a different time of the year.
Instead of the event being held in April/May, it’s being moved to later in the year, starting on Sunday 16 November and concluding on Friday 21 November 2025. The return means that the iconic rally will be run at a different time of the year for at least the next five years. The change in date means less challenging weather for competitors and officials, with a mid-November slot assisting in improved safety conditions.
A range of safety changes will be implemented as well as changes to the course layout. For the first time, the event will get underway in Hobart with a Ceremonial Start, with various revamped stages across the south. The event will then head to Devonport for a first-ever overnight stop on Monday 17 November, before heading to Launceston on 18 November, where it will remain until the finish. A first-time Official Finish will be held in Launceston on the evening of Friday 21 November, bringing a whole new Targa experience to the northern city.
The funding agreement with the State Government sees Targa Tasmania continue to at least 2029. It is estimated that the event injects $8 million into the Tasmanian economy and attracts 3,500 interstate participants each year.
