Nissan 300ZX Steve Millen Edition

In 1995, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the original 1970 Datsun 240Z sports car, Nissan released the Steve Millen Edition Z32 300ZX.  Limited numbers were built with the US receiving the twin turbo version and Australia receiving 40 of the non turbo version.

New Zealand born Steve Millen provided the inspiration for the Anniversary models.  Millen has been globally racing at the professional level for over 30 years.  From the early to mid 1990’s, Millen drove a twin turbo 300ZX for Clayton Cunningham Racing.  In 1992 and 1994, he earned two IMSA GTS Driving Championships and two IMSA GTS Manufacturer’s Championships.  In 1994, the Z32 race car achieved victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 hours of Sebring.  In the same year, Millen also won the IMSA GTS class at the Le Mans 24 hour and finished 5th overall in the 800-horsepower No. 75 Nissan 300ZX twin turbo.

Steve also started Stillen, an aftermarket performance parts company specializing in Nissan vehicles in 1986.  Nissan Australia built the 40 Anniversary versions using stock vehicles modified with a parts package supplied by Millen.  For Australian delivered cars, this package included Stillen alloy wheels, an aggressive bodykit and 25th Anniversary badging.  Power however remained the same as base model cars with the 3 Litre 24 Valve V6 producing 168kW of power and 271Nm of torque.  Cars cost $88,300 brand new for a manual and $92,995 for an automatic, costing roughly $5,000 more than a base model Z32 300ZX.

A few years ago, I drove a standard manual 1995 Nissan Z32 300ZX and was very impressed with the cars balance and handling.  With the aggressive bodykit on the Stillen edition, the car looks fast but unfortunately due to it weighing around the 1500kg mark and not having a great amount of power; it would struggle against modern day hot hatches in a straight line.  The thing that impressed me the most however about the 300ZX was the steering feel and how composed the car was through both low and high speed corners.

If you are lucky enough to find an 25th Anniversary car, they are now a bargain in the $10,000-$15,000 bracket.  It’s a lot of car for the money and with such few numbers built, surely has to be an appreciating classic.

Adjustable oil filter wrench

I recently did an oil change on my Nissan 300ZX and this adjustable oil filter wrench really came in handy. It can be adjusted for all different oil filter sizes ranging from 54mm to 116mm. This tool is highly recommended and makes an oil change so much easier.

Seagate Portable External Hard Drive

This portable external 2TB hard drive has been a handy back-up for storing all my photos, videos and articles.

Motul RBF 660 Dot-4 Racing Brake Fluid 500 mL

I use this racing brake fluid for my Nissan 300ZX for track days. It’s a DOT 4 fluid that has a very high boiling point. The car now has less brake fade and this brake fluid gives me more confidence to brake later on the track.

ACDelco Digital Torque Wrench

A handy torque wrench, it’s very easy to use and features an easy to read LED display with a choice of measurements (kg-cm, N-m, in-lb. ft-lb), LED flashing and a buzzer alarm when the torque is reached.
